Biography

Jens Buis was born in 1998 in Groningen, NL, where he currently resides and works. His artistic journey began with a diploma in
media design from Noorderpoort College in 2019, with early interests in film, photography, and Artificial Intelligence forming a
crucial foundation. In 2019, he started at the Minerva Art Academy in Groningen, where he developed his unique artistic approach.

We could call him a “filmographic painter”. Existing video footage is cut into a series of stills. With the help of a special printing
technique (lenticular), these fragments are then merged into a single whole. By moving around the work as a spectator, the work
comes to life. This dynamic interaction is enhanced by a combination of mystical shapes, seductive colors and organic movements. Themes such as time, connection, presence and synchronicity serve as conceptual foundations here. Buis is not afraid of aesthetics; on the contrary, he poetically seeks the sublime.

In addition to his artistic practice, Buis founded the art platform 2ndFloor in 2021 (an initiative aimed at making art more accessible and fostering connections between art and society) and co-founded the artist collective De Tegel in 2022.
